biography

Geoffrey Julio Vorlaza
Filipino-American (California)
Born in Philippines, 1968 —

Geoffrey Julio Vorlaza immigrated in the United States in 1990 already carrying grand dreams of owning and operating his own design studio. Creative since birth, he has continually studied and focused on art throughout his life—from traditional to digital art, oftentimes managing and creating art collectives (primarily composed of artist friends), designing, creating visuals for school plays and programs.

His designs utilize the oriental aesthetic of beauty—simplicity, harmony and flow. He carefully chooses various types of fabrics that are rich, lustrous and convey an Asian influence. These fabrics are paired with natural elements and metal stampings molded to different symbols and depict characters that have rich cultural interpretations.

He also has in mind his biggest influences when making his one-of-a-kind art pieces, inspired by the sensitive nature of ukiyo-e masters Hiroshige and Hokusai. French impressionism, Roman art and American minimalism also play an important role when choosing his designs.  Geoffrey keeps his designs simple in nature but convey a visually rich landscape which is open to broad interpretations.

Geoffrey received an AA in Graphic Designs from Platt College (San Francisco) receiving the 1st prize winner of logo design contest for the California Post Secondary Schools in 1999. Studied fashion art and commercial designs at the Academy of Art College (undergrad) receiving an academic award for creative fashion design couture in 1994.

His works are in private collections both nationally and internationally
